Nairobi, 26 June 2014 – With the fate of the Earth’s marine environment hanging in the balance and human-induced challenges accelerating, ocean champions from around the globe – including His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco and the former Heads of State, Ministers and business leaders of the Global Ocean Commission – have joined forces in a clarion call for comprehensive and integrated ocean governance.
HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and resident philanthropist, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, last night co-hosted a fundraising cocktail reception on the easyJet founder’s philanthropic foundation Monaco terrace.
This event was in aid of WWF's joint work with the Prince Albert II of Monaco's and Sir Stelios' philanthropic foundations focusing on the preservation of the monk seal in the Mediterranean.
Total amount raised: 180,000 euros
Over 400 guests heard how the three organizations plan to take concerted action to save this endangered species. Speeches from HSH the Prince, Sir Stelios and WWF Director General, Mr Marco Lambertini, emphasized how voluntary donations could help fund this important campaign.
Sunnylands, Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation & Scripps Oceanography announce plans for retreat to address rising sea levels and ocean acidification issues
RANCHO MIRAGE, CALIFORNIA, The Annenberg Retreat at Sunnylands, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego will host an important retreat in October 2014 to address two of the most pressing issues impacting our planet—rising sea levels and ocean acidification, which are both linked to anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases and their impact on the climate. The retreat will take place at The Annenberg Retreat at Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage, California.
