From March 10 to May 10 2015 - Beyond Plastic Med Exhibition in Monaco, at la galerie des pêcheurs

The Mediterranean Sea is a biodiversity hotspot. Knowing that 70 to 90% of the marine litter are plastics, it is time to take action. In order to promote a long-standing dialogue between stakeholders in the plastics industry, four organisations (Surfrider Foundation Europe, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the MAVA Foundation and Tara Expéditions) have decided to pool their expertise, networks and resources under the banner of Beyond Plastic Med, to hold an international conference on the 10th and 11th of March, 2015 (Monaco Yacht Club): “Plastic in the Mediterranean: beyond observations, what are the solutions?” Far from being a one-off event, the aim is to lead to the creation of a collective, Beyond Plastic Med, which will be an intermediary between institutions, scientists, industries and citizens.

On Monday 9th February 2015, as part of the "Students on Ice" programme, the aim of which is to promote Education for Sustainable Development, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Office of Education, Youth and Sport invited Year 12 General Studies pupils to attend a film screening and lecture on regions of the world where the environment is under threat. For the reader's information, as part of the awareness actions aimed at the younger generation, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has supported this initiative since 2010.

HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco awards the 2015 Prince’s Prize for Innovative Philanthropy to Amitabh Shah of YUVA Unstoppable

The 2015 Prince's Prize for Innovative Philanthropy has been awarded today at the Yacht Club de Monaco to Amitabh Shah of YUVA Unstoppable. YUVA Unstoppable is an Indian non-profit organisation that aims to inspire kindness amongst the youth by encouraging them to volunteer for two hours a week. YUVA volunteers and its partner corporations improve school infrastructure, spread digital literacy, and create traffic awareness and cleanliness campaigns across the country. In the last nine years, they have mobilised over 100,000 young people across 30 cities, benefitting more than 240,000 people.

The Foundation, aware that the future of the oceans is one of the greatest challenges of our times, both economically and environmentally speaking, has made this issue one of its major concerns.

2nd meeting of the Ocean Acidifcation international Reference User Group (OAiRUG)

This week has been marked by two major international cooperation events towards promoting global actions on ocean acidification. After a fruitful workshop on the socio-economic dimension of OA with a special emphasis on coastal ecosystems and communities, with relevant conclusions drawn and recommendations made in the presence and with the active engagement of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, it is the time for the 2nd meeting of the OA international Reference User Group (OAiRUG) to set the stage for the development of an OA forecasting system that would help society prepare for and anticipate global ocean changes.
